Functional Exercise Specialist Certification (Level 1)

Main Instructor: Mike Romatowski, CPT, MGFI.

Objective: To teach trainers a structured, innovative method for determining a client's starting point for an effective exercise program, and to present specific functional exercise protocols to help them reach their goals.

Format: This is a “Level 1” certification, presented in a 2 part format. The course is, 100% hands-on . There is no lecture – students will learn interactively by practicing with each other via a “musical chairs” learning format. When the student takes Part 2 - there will be a written and practical exam.

Part 1 -Intro to Functional Exercise

Highlights: Students will learn to use a PAC (Posture, Athleticism, Coordination) Matrix to determine their clients’ starting point for an exercise program. The student will learn how to gauge Athleticism and Coordination. The student will also learn Corrective and Beginning Multi-Plane Routines and Intermediate Multi-Plane Routines.

Features: Exercise routines will be “multi-direction, multi-plane,” and will include the use of dumbbells, medicine balls, tubing, cables, and stability balls.

Part 2- Advanced Functional Exercise

Functional Exercise Specialist Certification agenda:

•  Review of Part I and demonstration of Advanced Multi-Plane Routines from the exercise manual.

•  High-Function Muscle Building : A system of delivering muscle “sculpting” or muscle building workouts to clients who have a desire to look more muscular and more defined. The system involves creating sequences of exercises which are arranged from highest functional requirement to lowest functional requirement.

•  Fat Burning Exercises : A system of anaerobic interval training designed to promote muscle building and fat loss. This is for clients who already have at least an intermediate level of fitness, athleticism, and coordination

•  An introduction to the R.O.M.S.™ System : A trademarked system of using large, sweeping movements to promote a fit, athletic body. “R.O.M.S.” stands for “Range-of-Motion Sphere.”

•  Certification Exam: The exam will be in “essay” format, designed to allow the student to create exercise scenarios for various types of clients.
